Dann bist du in diesem Kurs genau richtig.

English Course - Highline Workshop in Switzerland with Samuel Volery

Have you always wanted to walk across a slackline at dizzying heights? Then this is the right course for you. Under the guidance of Samuel Volery, one of the most experienced highliners in the world, you will do your first attempts on a highline. In this course you will learn how to rig a highline safely. This includes how to build anchor points on trees and on rocks. But also how to connect the 2 anchor points – we will even learn how to fly a drone-connection between the anchor points.

Another focus is on the sport part. Learn how to slide out on the highline, how to sit and stand up and how to leash fall. Also we will have a look on some basic freestyle tricks like e.g. a chest roll or a sit bounce. These freestyle tricks are actually easier than walking on the highline and will help you to overcome your fears of height.

There are many more skills to be learned in the course like e.g. how to rig a hammock on a highline. But mainly we want to focus on your personal goals. You will have plenty of time to bring in your questions. This can be very basic stuff like learning how to tie a figure-8 but could also be advanced stuff like learning how to do a Yoda-Roll or the advantages and disadvantages of different taping methods.

Highline Week: On these four unforgettable days you will set up your first highlines in Gadmen, near the Susten Pass, under Sam’s guidance. The shortest line is about 20m long, the longest about 70m.

Goals of the Highline-Workshop

  • Learn and improve your slackline basics like sit-mounts and walking skills
  • First Highline tries
  • Try some simple tricks which also helps overcoming your fears of height
  • Learn to leash fall
  • Learn to rig highlines (anchor point, connection, etc.)
  • Highline safety
  • Climb a leash
  • Rig a hammock on a highline

Included in the course costs:

  • Participation on the workshop
  • All necessary highline material (except for your personal harness)
  • 3x Breakfast and 3x dinner (from Monday evening until Thursday morning)
  • A sleeping place in the house – Please bring your own sleeping bag and bed sheet. Optionally you can also sleep in your van or in a hammock outdoors.

Location and Dates

4 days in Gadmen, close to the Sustenpass. Exact location

  • 23. – 26. May 2024
Close to the spot there are amazing hiking possibilite – it is definitely worth to visit the „Triftbrücke“ (google it to see pictures) which can be reached by hiking. Also really close to the spot there is the Sustenpass which offers more highline possibilities. You can find detailed information about those Highline Spots here

Requirements

You should be able to walk at least a 15-20m long slackline on the ground. Ideally with about 2m sag. You should also be in more or less good shape (e.g. be able to do at least 2 pullups or climb 6a).

We really recommend that you learn how to

– Mantle Mount

Sit Mount on a slackline with about 2m sag

Specially the mantle mount is an extremely important skill prior to the highline course as it will allow you to do many tries. If you do not have a clean mantle mount you will be exhausted after 1 or 2 leash falls. Having a strong and clean mantle mount will allow you to do many tries on the highline!

Upon the basics mentioned above, we also recommend you to learn

– How to start and stop a surf on a rodeo- or longline

– On a low rodeoline (with mats underneath) you could even give a few tries to mount and walk while wearing a harness to start understanding the leash management

Things to bring along:

Take weather proof clothes and a harness with you. If you have, also bring along a personal safety sling with a carabiner and a HangOver (rolling device). Upon that, take your sleeping bag and bed sheet. And as the place is a bit in the middle of nowhere it is wise to buy some food for lunch and snacks already on the way there.

If you want, bring protective equipment like gloves, cup (for weird leashfalls), skinners (barefoot-shoes), bike-pants. However, all that is just if you want – there is absolutely no necessity to wear protective equipment.

A former participant – Fabienne Egger – states

Thank you again a million times for this great highline beginner workshop.

🏔🌳——–🚶‍♀️——–🌳🏔

You are a very skilled instructor and coach. Your patience, thorough thorough information, guidance and instructions, your eye for details in safety, and your ability to cheer us up and not only push our limits but actually getting us to level up was amazing.

Thank you.

I can highly recommend you to any new highliner, but also those who want to improve their techniques and skills.

A really detailed feedback by former participants Andrea Chan and Ran Steiger

Super amazing things
– Sam, your really cool teaching style, easy going, humble, good balance between teaching and letting us be independent, helpful feedback during sessions on and off the lines
– Opportunity to ask any question and your wealth of knowledge!
– Making us feel physically safe even outside of comfort zones through explaining system and all redundancies
– Feeling like the workshop was adjusted to the level of the group ability
– Supply of equipment (we only needed harnesses and personal safety)
– Teaching on rescue and de-tensioning to re rig an anchor
– Teaching us problem solving and decision making skills when rigging rather than a set method, giving confidence to consider rigging our own safe high lines
– Encouraging good team communication and leadership
– Duration – 4 days was good for sessioning and theory teaching and taking into account weather
– Raf’s food and hospitality

Feedback for making the workshop even better:
Before coming:
– Learning to mantle/mount more useful for starting to highline than walking
– Some awareness of what using a harness, leash and leash ring would feel like, direction of falls (even maybe wearing a harness on a park line and feeling how to sit with the leg straps etc)
– Travel for international people: advise Swiss train and bus system is really easy to use, not to stress about getting to location

During:
– When advising to warm up tell them to warm up their necks (for the awkward leash falls and whiplash to come 😂)

Highline Freestyle Workshop in Switzerland with Samuel Volery

Do you want to learn new dynamic and fun Highline Freestyle tricks? Maybe stick your first sofa roll, rocket mount, flare or chestroll to feet? Then this is the perfect workshop for you. Sam has a big variety of tricks to teach and tons of experience doing so. In this workshop you will also learn how to rig a great freestyle highline.

Requirements

You should already feel comfortable sliding (with a HangOver) and sitting on a highline. If you can already stand, walk and do some tricks, even better. But this is no necessity. Stoke and the will to improve are more important.

What I will teach

  • How to rig a great freestyle line
  • Different freestyle tricks (this depends on your level, you can also text me in an e-mail what your dream trick would be so we can work towards that one)
  • We want to also stick a synchro combo on 2 parallel highlines in the end.

Included in the course costs:

  • Participation in the workshop
  • All necessary highline material (except for your personal harness)
  • A place to set up your tent or hammock or to park your van

Location and Dates

3 days in Niouc, in south-west Switzerland.

  • Friday-Sunday 19. – 21. April 2024

Location & Setup

We will have two parallel highlines of around 70m length which makes it easy to teach directly from the line beside and show the according trick.

The highlines are only 3 minutes walk from the „camp ground“. It is not an official camp ground but a pretty crazy place that offers bungy jumps, rope jumps but mainly tons of good mood. More information can be found on bungyniouc.com. Also we can rig 1-2 rodeolines on the camp ground – this often helps to do the tricks in slow-motion for the basic understanding.

Sometimes some longer highlines of 160-200m are being rigged right next to the freestyle spot.

On place there is running drinking water. However, bring your food along as there is no shop nearby. During the weekend days the bar of Bungy Niouc is open and you can order coffee, etc. if you want.

Things to bring along:

Take weather proof clothes and a harness with you. If you have, also bring along a personal safety sling with a carabiner and a HangOver (rolling device). Upon that, bring your camping equipment.
